As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at ColeBreit Engineering, you’ll lead the development of building environmental and energy systems that define comfort, performance, and sustainability across our healthcare and institutional portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, HVAC, hydronic, and medical gas systems—integral components of the high-performing, reliable environments we design. You’ll apply expertise in system design, energy efficiency, code compliance, and interdisciplinary coordination to guide projects from concept through construction—ensuring every design meets the highest standards of quality, innovation, and technical rigor.

You demonstrate advanced technical expertise as the go-to person for project specific discipline matters, delivering technical excellence with full accountability for quality designs, compliance, and resolving challenges.

You guide junior engineers, fostering collaboration, mentoring, and introducing new technologies to ensure growth and alignment with industry standards. 

 

​EXCEL AT MANAGING COMPLEX HEALTHCARE PROJECTS? 

You have a proven track record leading the mechanical design for hospitals, clinics, and medical office buildings, coordinating with architects, contractors, and facility stakeholders to deliver high-performing, compliant, and reliable systems. Your attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities make you a trusted contributor on every healthcare project. Familiarity with HCAI submittals, review processes, and compliance standards is highly valued.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: 

Within the first 30 days: 

  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of ColeBreit Engineering’s mission, values, strategic goals, and key differentiators in the market. 

  • Conducts introductory one-on-one meetings with at least 5 key team members to build relationships and clarify role expectations. 

  • By the 30-day mark, takes responsibility for 2+ active projects, reviews task assignments & resource plans ensuring junior team members’ hours and workloads are effectively aligned with deadlines. 

3-4 months and ongoing: 

  • Leads 3-6 active projects, produces annotated calculation packages, and addresses resource or process bottlenecks to ensure alignment with project timelines and goals. 

  • Completes 3+ site visits to support projects, maintains consistent communication with clients, and actively mentors junior engineers. 

  • By the 4-month mark, delivers 1 technical presentation during the monthly all-hands meeting and proactively identifies areas for improvement in the project workflow, implementing solutions that benefit the ColeBreit Engineering team. 

6-12 months and ongoing:  

  • Manages 6-8 active projects independently serving as a go-to resource for junior staff, and masters company-standard load calculation methods, cross-checking and validating reports. 

  • By the 12-month mark, has generated 1+ repeat client from previous projects, building strong relationships through technical expertise, and conducts post-project reviews with the team on wrapped up projects.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: 

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in MEP engineering with a strong focus on healthcare projects, including calculations, specifications, and discipline management required

  • 2+ years of leadership experience transitioning from a hands-on technical engineering role to a discipline/project management role, demonstrating leadership in project strategy, team coordination, and technical oversight required   

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Mechanical Engineering, with registration in California or Oregon (or ability to obtain licensure in those states within 90 days of employment) required 

  • Proven project and technical leadership, including the ability to define problems, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions, while providing mentorship to junior team members and overseeing project delivery required 

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports, accurate business correspondence, & effectively present information to diverse stakeholders required 

  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems, including system alternatives, strategic system selection, and staying current on industry developments to meet project-specific requirements and conditions required 

  • Proven proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD required 

  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam having used this software application to work through client projects highly preferred 

  • Working knowledge of load simulation software such as Trane, Carrier, or Energy Pro highly preferred 

  • Demonstrated working experience ensuring compliance with California’s specific building codes and regulations highly preferred 

  • Active participation in professional organizations such as ASHRAE or similar, demonstrating ongoing engagement with industry standards and developments preferred

The compensation range is $110,000 - $145,000 annually, commensurate with experience level and skillset
