Central Oregon Community College, Madras Campus Expansion

Summary

The new Central Oregon Community College Madras facility expands the campus with purpose-built instructional space supporting healthcare and technical training programs. The 25,000-square-foot building includes general classrooms, a nursing skills lab, simulation rooms, allied health science labs, and an on-site childcare center—designed to meet the functional and safety requirements of modern vocational education.

ColeBreit Engineering provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services, along with construction support and performance specifications for fire protection systems. The design incorporates dedicated medical gas infrastructure, dental training space with specialized chair hookups, and wet labs with code-compliant exhaust and fume hoods for chemical handling.

A key focus of the project was delivering flexible, all-electric MEP systems that support safety, adaptability, and long-term campus needs. ColeBreit designed lab-ready infrastructure with hard-piped utility drops, dedicated makeup air for hooded exhaust, and proper segregation of general and specialized ventilation in accordance with ASHRAE 62.1. Additional features include exhaust air valves to maintain lab pressurization and fume hood performance, infrastructure for a future backup generator, and full commercial kitchen design. ColeBreit also provided whole-building energy modeling and secured Energy Trust of Oregon incentives through the ETO whole-building pathway—demonstrating a holistic, performance-driven approach to educational facility design.
