ColeBreit Engineering is providing plumbing engineering and fire protection performance specifications for the 51,000-square-foot expansion of the Deschutes County Courthouse and Justice Building in Bend, Oregon. Working under PAE Engineers as part of a multidisciplinary team, ColeBreit is supporting the delivery of a civic justice facility that integrates new construction with an active courthouse campus.
The expansion serves courtrooms, judicial chambers, jury spaces, secure circulation zones, and administrative areas—each with distinct plumbing and life-safety demands. Systems are being designed to support high-occupancy public areas while addressing the durability, security, and reliability requirements inherent to justice facilities. Integration with existing campus infrastructure requires detailed coordination to align new and existing utilities without disrupting ongoing court operations.
Close collaboration with LRS Architects, Pence Construction, and the broader engineering team has been essential to maintaining constructability, meeting evolving code requirements, and supporting phased construction through the 2023–2026 schedule. The result is a coordinated plumbing and fire protection framework designed to serve a long-term civic asset with resilience and operational reliability.
