San Lorenzo Valley High School CTE Building
Summary
The San Lorenzo Valley High School Career & Technology (CTE) project consists of two new single-story classroom buildings totaling approximately 9,900 square feet, located at the top of the campus in Felton, California. Designed to support hands-on technical and vocational education, the facilities include makerspaces, IT instruction labs, agriculture and agriscience classrooms, and an 800-square-foot greenhouse. The flexible learning environments are intended to adapt to a wide range of teaching methods and evolving curriculum needs.
ColeBreit Engineering provided mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the project, including HVAC systems and controls, plumbing systems, and fire sprinkler design. Working closely with the design team, ColeBreit developed efficient, reliable building systems that support both specialized instructional spaces and long-term campus operations.
A key challenge of the project was delivering highly adaptable, energy-efficient systems within flexible, open instructional spaces. ColeBreit addressed this by implementing heat recovery VRF systems capable of simultaneous heating and cooling, supplemented by high-volume ceiling fans to maintain comfort in high-ceiling classrooms. A simplified, web-based building management system provides centralized control and remote monitoring without the cost and complexity of traditional institutional systems—demonstrating ColeBreit’s ability to deliver practical, forward-thinking solutions tailored to educational environments.
